2008 66000 miles why . started rattle in centre of engine then locked

Probably diesel got into the oil - test the oil.

Diesel is not a good enough lubricant for the engine.

This is a known thing with the Jaguar 2.7D engine, such as in the S-Type. Quite a lot of posts on the net if you look,
