You know it won't pass MoT?

And will throw codes.

Did this to my 02 X-Type 3.0. It sounded horrible, major interior drone and loss of low end torque. The bottom end punch will be diminished some and cruising speeds will have your ears begging you to take them off due to the huge amount of interior drone. Your goals must be to up the hp? If you must then you may consider: Magnaflow's hi-flow cats and Tru-X muffler (a center muffler with built-in x-pipe), leading to a pair of Walker Dynomax VT mufflers (has a flap closing off flow at idle then opening as.... The 3.0 V6, like most V6's, emits high frequency resonations making it difficult to quiet down. Leave her alone, instead sell or trade for a V8 S-Type? 03-08 4.2 n/a = 310 chp whilst the STR bangs out 400 chp.

Stanners, leave the cats alone and just pop on Magnaflow mufflers. This'll help with 5 chp and sound sweet. At this point if she's still quiet for your tastes, pop on Magnaflow's Tru-X center muffler (built in x-pipe).

I agree, I thought of having it done to my 4.0 everyone said no so i didnt, not to mention getting someone willing to take the risk/fine of cutting them out is near impossible.

Granted this is a v8, but gives you an idea

I plan on doing some pulls on the highway this weekend with my camera.

Sounds awesome! Not bothered if its too loud but as long as it don't sound tacky if you know what I mean. What would be the chances of it throwing codes up? What effects would it cause and could they be cleared etcc.. ?

Code will be thrown unless you address the aftercat O2s. There are two ways to do it, but I don't know how this board is about defeating emissions stuff

Look for modified X-Types on Youtube. They'll sound similar but a bit louder than an "S".

Things is, we do what I think the USA calls tailpipe tests, so defeating the sensors to avoid throwing codes is pointless. The MoT will fail the car and it's off road until fixed.

(We test CO, CO2, HC, lambda and so on using test equipment.)

Here in the U.S. some either alter emissions following passing emissions testing or have a friend show up with his stock S-Type to do the tail pipe sniff then throw the mechanic a $20 spot or better to look the other way.

Catalytic converter have progressed to where removing them does little to no good power wise. They even have race cats out for very high HP cars (800-1000HP) that have very little restriction.

So I think you are wise to just leave them alone.

Can't use a different car as they note the VIN. $20 is so little it would take a really stupid mechanic over here to risk losing their MoT accreditation!! Basically would be putting their job and livelihood on the line.

Just repair the car if it's broken.

The customers car's VIN is entered on the DMV computer but the pipe sniffer is placed in the donor cars pipe. Agree with fixing the d*&n thing.

As I said, it would be someone really stupid who put their livelihood at risk in committing the criminal act for $20.
