Driving in Cold Weather
Here some things I've found useful in keeping comfortable in cold weather.
1. Turn off the climate control until the temperature goes past the blue portion of the gauge.
2. Turn on the climate control but hit the mode switch to engage the face and foot vents. This allows a blast of warm air to your hands and face as well as your feet.
3. Once you have feeling in your hands and the steering wheel is fairly warm, then hit the Auto switch. This allows a bit more warm air to your feet. The cabin by this time is fairly warm and comfortable.

To keep comfortable in my truck on the cold winter mornings when I'm heading out for my morning hikes at 6:30 am, I turn my climate control switch to OFF and simply roll both windows all the way down for the duration of the trip. I love it, and so does the dog who hikes with me. I highly recommend this as a great way to start your morning (unless your wife happens to be riding with you that day instead of the dog)....
