Default Dropped Earing

My missus has just dropped an earing doown between my drivers seat and center armrest, just to the rear of the handbrake, we have had a good look for it but it seems to have vanished, will have another good look in daylight, but does anyone know any tips or tricks or where it might settle as its very cramped down there,

Thanks

Devilish Peace Officer:
Funny, my wife dropped a small packet of chewing gum in the same place. Even very small hands will not be able to get down there. She obtained a large tweezer/forceps, about 10 inches long, from work and was able to grab it and pull it out. If that doesn't work perhaps removing the centre console will give access.

Get one of those metal extension wands with a magnet on the tip. If the earring is made out of a magnetic metal, that will be the easiest way to fish it out. Try the matching earring she did NOT lose with the magnetic tip. If it sticks, go for the lost one....

There's a similar device but with a grabbing claw of 3 (or 4) fingers that operate remotely. You'd have to fish around hoping to grab the lost part.

If you can borrow a borescope or the like you should be able to see the item

You may be able to see it but can you reach it?

It's not a huge job to take the seat out, and who knows what you might find.

Did you try raising the seat all the way up and either to the front or back to see if you can reach it?

You are probably gonna have to buy one of these to get it. How expensive were the earrings. Might be cheaper to just let them go. LOL. Sorry couldnt resist. I would try the magnetic wand like others suggested I use one all the time for dropped tools. Saved my butt doing the throttle body for a few things that I dropped that didnt go to the floor.

Nip down to the Strand in Bootle, park at the back of the buildings, and offer a £10 finders fee.

In 2 minutes you will have your earring, snag is, the rest of the car will have been shipped to South Africa!!

Nah....Rick's "ID" too labor intensive....10 min won't even qualify you for a celebratory (or cheap, even!) beer......invest capital and find it with this:

Amazon.com: Wired Waterproof Snake Plumbing Sewer Inspection Handheld Camera with 2.5 TFT-LCD Color Monitor Flexible Extended Tube (Extend to 9ft Detection Range): Camera & Photo

Then ****** it with this:

Amazon.com: KD 2391 Flexible Retrieving Tool: Automotive

You'll appreciate having the tools for awhile and can always blame the expense on the wife's carelessness...

I second the magnetic tool - good to have as part of your toolbox anyway. Get one that can extend and has a hinge so it can bend in every direction.

Option 2 is to use a shop vac with a small vent attachment and try to suck it out. Just clean out the vac prior to using it so you can find the earring inside.

Congrats on finding it!!! But to the magnetic tool people... gold is a non-ferrous metal, so that would only work if the earring had some cheap parts to it. No kidding, almost all the "exotic" or precious metals are non-ferrous so a magnetic tool is RARLEY the way to go. Just food for thought in the future gents.

That's why I suggested he try the matching, non-lost earring with the magnetic wand first....
