My recently acquired winter beater has a quirk where the rear doors cannot be opened by the occupants or from the outside unless someone in the front hits the unlock button on the armrest or key fob (?)

Child locks are 'off'.

 

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm actually referring to an audible chirp other than from the horn. The chirp sounds alot different and I believe that it may only apply to the XJ models.
