Hi, I'm currently working on Jaguar S type 2001 3.0 with a blown head gasket. So far, I've removed the front cover housing where timing chain tensioner is located and I've contacted Jaguar technician for instruction on how to remove or add tension, but they have yet to contact me. If anyone had worked on this engine before, are there any tips to remove the cylinder head and replace the gasket? Also, my water temperature sensor (the one that bolts on to the cylinder head), has been broken. Will the Lincoln LS temperature sensor fit? thanks

You can download the engine course from jagrepair.com.

The '99-'02 3.0 engines used a Cylinder Heat Temperature (CHT) sensor, not a water temperature sensor like most vehicles. The CHT sensor measures the actual metal temperature, not the coolant. More details at this link, including the Jaguar XR813484 part number. I do not believe Lincoln used the same type of sensor, but am not positive.

Thank you for all your responses; I've managed to remove the head gaskets and started to clean the cylinder surface. It turns out the right side gasket completely blew and water was seeping into the combustion chamber. So, will the Lincoln LS head gasket fit into the Jaguar S type? And also, the cylinder temperature sensor seems to match the same as the Lincoln's so thank you.
