Default Engine Support beam alternate

I have been working on replacing the head gasket on my STR and have hit a brick wall. JTIS calls for the use of a Lifting eye bracket and a Engine support beam so that I can lift/tilt the engine to remove the 2 lower bolts on the AC compressor.

Does anyone have an alternate method for removing the compressor?

Thanks

I'm fairly sure someone posted about this but I'm struggling to recall when/etc. I think it may have been removing/loosening an engine mount and jacking just a bit. See if someone posts but otherwise Advanced Search lets you select just this forum and with some pain you may find it via a word like compressor.

From the sounds of it, you could likely get away with a floor jack and a piece of wood under the oil pan, loosening the motor mount(s) and giving it a light lift...

So I've decided to move forward with an Engine Support Beam that sells on Harbor Freight for $79 and with a $20 coupon was able to get it for $59.

I still need a suitable alternate for the lifting Brackets 303-749. The only set i was able to find are on the jaguar.service-solutions.com website for $138. Way to pricey for something that averages $30-$50 for other engines. Please help if you have tried an alternate and where i can get it.

I'm almost there!!!

I have changed the A/C compressor on my STR. Be prepared for a fight to get those bolts out. There is not enough room to pull the bolt out without hitting the sub frame (This is only a problem with the R cars because the sub frame is so reinforced on the super charged cars). I had to leave the bolt in the compressor and remove them together. One other hint: I cut about ½” inch off both bolts before reinstalling just so I had a tiny bit of room to work.

Be VERY careful because the bolts thread into Aluminum and it’s too easy to cross thread them. I did that and after getting the compressor all the way out I chased all 4 A/C compressor bolt holes before I reinstalled anything.

Use a piece of wood and a floor jack. What the JTIS does not tell you is you can get much more lift with the floor jack than you ever will with the engine support.

So you have more flexibility using the jack setup.

It will make a difference!
