I am heading to another mechanic for a second tomorrow ....but will likely replace the rack and pinion if needed with a reman or a used...not sure what....

Question - Is there any importance in the fact that the leak is coming out of both boots? Its pouring out of them actually.....

I guess it would make sense to have liquid on both sides after looking at another diagram

I am ordering a new rack an pinion off ebay/someother online resource. WAY more complicated that I hoped. Turns out there are two type of vintage for this power steering. Mine starts with N071.....does anyone know what rack and pinion I should be getting. Also how do I know if I have the sport edition? I bought the car used and it had no manual...so confused and frustrated

The steering rack, like many other components on your car, is VIN-specific.

Have the shop doing the work for you identify which steering rack is fitted and then order the correct one to match.

You have the Sport Suspension with CATS if there are wires coming out of the top of each suspension strut. Look at the front struts in the engine compartment and see if there are small wires coming out of the top of the struts connected to the wiring loom.

X200s with Sport Suspension typically also have 17-inch wheels.

Did those numbers help in deciphering whether that rack and pinioon(I previously linked the rack/pinion) I plan on getting will match my vin?

So we must assume your VIN is N407102?

The listing for the Cardone unit is for a 2003 S-Type. Is you car a 2003 or a 2004? If so, it may fit, but this is an aftermarket company so it's really anyone's guess.

We are all making an effort to help you find the correct part, but it's up to the shop doing the work to make sure you have the proper part so the car steers correctly.

Yes, and thank you all for your help.

I have an 04. The rack and pinion is the same for 03-08 (I believe) ....

I am responsible for buying the part in this case....the shop isnt .... Additionally I'm not sure they would have any additional insight as they are working with the notion that the rack/pinion has to match my vintage. They can get the part but it would be 800 bucks ..or at the least much more than would be appropriate... So the onus is on me to make sure I order the right part

So I called a dealer on got my oem number run by my vin and then had the company cross reference the remaned rack and pinion and it fits....142 with a lifetime warranty. Seems fair

Rock Auto cross references the Cardone part number with the Jag part no for your VIN shown in the EPC screen shot above. So it should be good.

Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): C2960H, C2P6041, C2Z2214, XR844363E, XR845465

Actually it didn't and I want to literally blow my head off. I ordered the above part and it turns out that it doesn't fit. The steering column doesnt match up.

So I don't have ajob and have been basically confined to my fathers apartment during the day....now I have to figure this out....HOW the hell doesn't this thing fit.

The mechanic has to take it off the lift ....Im so out of my mind with anger and depression I can't even begin to articulate it

What is the vendor's return policy for parts that supposedly fit but actually do not?
