front brake noise
I had my front pads replaced with ceramics and discs resurfaced last year at Midas. Now if I drive the car around town with frequent stops the left front brake makes a grinding sound (like metal to metal) as you come to a complete stop. When I first start out the noise does not appear no matter how hard I apply the brakes. It only occurs after repeated use of the brakes. I took it back to Midas and they concluded that the caliper was binding up and wanted to replace both calipers, brake lines, pads and discs. I had them take the caliper off, clean it and lubricate the slide area. The noise is still there. When they tried to sell me the complete overhaul I looked at the brake on the rack and saw that the pads are not worn, the disc remains smooth and saw no evidence of over heating. What can it be? Piston in the caliper may not be retracting... a complete overhaul is not neccessary, especially if the pads and rotor haven't been overheated yet, although I would investigate further prior to blindly ordering and replacing parts...
Order a new brake caliper from rockauto.com, replace it yourself or have them do it, and go from there.

Ceramic pads in particualr can be irritating in this respect. My right front did this with a known good caliper, rotor etc etc. Simply for troubleshooting I swapped the left side pads for the right- problem gone. Braking performance remained the same so I left well enough alone. That was 3 (?) years ago.
Tell Midas to get stuffed.
