Default Front parking assist beeper isnt beeping anymore

And there doesnt seem much info on SDD or the service manual on troubleshooting it. The rear sensors beep when I get cose but the fronts dont. they used to though.

If you have access to an iCarsoft reader, these have the capability to test and determine which sensor is malfunctioning. I have the LR-II model and know this from personal experience.

Wasn't sure if it would give any insight or not ...never had to check mine.... probably just checks the module.....but, didn't you have the front bumper cover off a while back....might be worth a look if you haven't already....you might have an issue with the switch on the overhead if you have been poking around there

Just ran the parking aid self test. I heard one of the sounders beep. And then the self test failed with no explanation. Hapoens every time

Sorry if this is a bit obvious, and you have probably made sure about this already, but are the front sensors turned off via the switch in the overhead console?

If it is any help this is from the owners handbook:

Pressing the switch turns front and rear parking assist on or off together.
The integral switch warning light will come on when the system is turned off or if a fault is detected in the system.

Front parking assist provides an audible proximity warning when driving forwards.
The front sensors only operate within a fixed speed range in forward gears and are not effective when moving forwards above 15 km/h (9 mph) or when slowing
down until below 7 km/h (4½ mph).

If the system has a fault when engaging reverse gear or turning on the ignition, then a single, three second tone will be heard (only once per ignition cycle) and, if fitted, the switch light will come on. The system is automatically disabled when a fault is detected.

ya so i checked both switch positions again. With the light off, the rears work and the fronts dont. With the light on, the rears are definitely off and the fronts obviously still dont work.

I did play with SDD and the monitored the front signals and the beeper. I also reconfigured the module to include the front sensors but nothing makes it beep.

I do get an active signal from the sensor and SDD says the beeper goes active when I get close to something but theres no sound from the fronts. Rears work fine
.

Do you have the wireing diagram?
If not it may help, here is a link:

However if SDD states that everything is ok, my guess would be the sounder in the instrument cluster has failed.

Now i may have inadvertently disabled the "sounder" using SDD.

I know when i go and configure the modules it asks vague questions like "Intrusion Sensor" present or not. Theres a dealer option (I believe) for some sort of "sounder" that I thought was for the alarm sounder for the alarm beeper under the fuse box under the hood that US cars dont get.

Could the "sounder" in SDD be for the parking aid sounder?

I have never done it myself, but there is 100% a setting in SDD that turns on an external sounder when the car is locked and unlocked.
It was set to off by default on the s-type, because most customers wanted it turned off! That said I have seen cars with it turned on.
This is probably what you have seen in SDD, but I am not experianced enough in its use to know for sure.

I think you will find that the unit under the fuse box is the auxiliary alarm, this works when the battery is disconnected and contains a re-chargeable battery that with age can stop working making this alarm go off in the middle of the night! If you can get to this unit it can be unplugged and removed, the fixing screw is under the wing and a pig to get to, doing this has no effects on the rest of the car. This alarm is required to make the car comply with the higher anti-theft specifications that help bring the insurance costs down in the UK at least.

ya thats what I thought the sounder was for. i answer no when asked if installed.

So thisweekend i took off the front bumper cover and checked the wiring from the front sensors to the connector and then a couple from the connector to the parking aid module. All seemed good. back sensors still work fine. Fronts I hear nothing.

using SDD bto the to watch the sensor signals might be the key here

So I still have this issue. Using SDD I can seevthe front sensors react to things in front but theres no beep!

where's the thing that makes the beep? Is it just a speaker? I can tap onto the lines going to it st the connector on the left front dash area but is it a speaker level signal, or can I put a meter on it?

id really like for them to work
