Default fuel line to fuel rail connection/2003 stype 4.2L non turbo

I'm in the process of removing the intake manifold on my 2003 stype 4.2L non turbo to replace the valley hose. I've run into a problem with disconnecting the fuel line from the fuel rail in that I don't understand the connection between the two? If you can describe the fix, I'd appreciate it. I didn't want to continue and damage those parts.
Thanks,
Bob

The mystery connection. I don't know what I'm seeing here?

Fuel line removed

Got the correct tool from Auto Zone - Loaner

The silver 1/2" tool on the left didn't fit, so I used the green plastic tool.
