Default gasoline smell

Help!

After i fill up my tank, i get a strong gasoline smell all around the car which lasts for a day or two (with very little driving)

there are no leaks anywhere, and no gasoline residue (spills)
on the car....just the gasoline odor

from time to time (after about 80 miles of driving) i get a
p0442 warning (small evaporatve emission leak), could this
be related to the gasoline smell?

Thanks
chris p

Could it be the fuel pump seals that are located under the rear seat?

Yes, I had the exact code and fuel smell. Had the seal changed on the FP sending unit. Problem solved.

I have the same problem and P0442. Is the seal an easy fix?

Although I have not undertaken this task it should be a pretty easy DIY.

You do not have to drop the fuel tank like most vehicles. Lift out the rear seat cushion (2 tabs), remove rubber body cover exposing the fuel pump. Discount electrics, fuel line, twist locking ring remove fuel pump. Bobs your Uncle!

The O/P says the smell only lasts a day or two after a fill-up. That sounds more like an overfill overflow into the charcoal canister than a fuel pump seal. But that's just an observation, not based on any practical experience! Can someone tell me why I'm probably wrong?
