G'day everyone. This is my first post and I'd like to say that your all such a wealth of information. Great job guys. As a kid my neighbour had a few old jags and I absolutely fell in love with them so being now marginally older and wiser I'm currently on the hunt for a 99-00 s type 4.0 and I have a few q's in regards to the car. From searching this forum I can see that the water pump and timing chain tensioners are issues that should be seen too before I purchase anything. If I have to have these items replaced, what sort of money am I looking at for the job and can any mechanic do it or willI have to take it to a jag dealer?Also is it possible to retro-fit the current 08/type r bumper to a 99-00 s type 4.0 and what would be involved? I understand that the 08 s type has the same bumper as the type r now? I have called my local jag dealer in Doncaster, Melbourne and I really couldnt get a straight answer. Is there any other things I should know before I part with my hard earned? Thanks very much for your help fella's

Any mechanic can do the job if he knows what he is doing. There are special tools required, but easily obtainable.

As for the bumper, they look the same, but that doesn't mean they are....remember this though, anything can be made to fit. Just takes time, effort and sometimes alot of $$$

 

Thanx for your help mate. iunderstand with enough $$$ anything can fit but would the current 08/type r bumper just clip straight on so to speak. From looking at the cars i can see that the rear of the car has changed but the front does not appear to have changed at all. Is this correct? Thanx for your help

 

There would be no way to tell without taking one off myself. Also, you are in Australia i assume from the G'day up top. The body finishings and sometimes the lamps are a little different from what we have in the US. So I would hate to tell you yes and be wrong.
