Default Gear Brake Fault

Hi I'm new to the group so please bare with me! Today, when I put my car (2003 S-Type) in reverse, it jumped and made this noise. As I was driving it, I noticed an indicator came on "gear brake fault". WTH does this mean? and how much is this going to cost me. I have had this car for awhile and have kept up with the routine maintenance. I cannot afford to spend several thousands of dollars right now. I'm scared to death because when I went to google search I saw everything from transmission problems to replacement. Please help! THANK YOU

It's nice when new members post an introductory message as requested during sign up. Alos, add your car details, year, engine type, mileage, options etc. to your profile and sig.

I'll bet a box of donuts that it actually said 'park brake fault' followed by 'gearbox fault'.

Number 1 cause is the battery is dying. How old is it?
