My wife reversed my 2004 S-type onto the drive, braked and put the gear into 'park' but the car stayed in reverse gear. The gear stick will not move out of park, yet the red indicator light shows the car still to be in reverse. I switched off the ignition, and now it will not start, although the car probably wont start because it thinks that it is still in gear, the brake feels hard without any movement, and aclicking noise (I have not heard before) starts from under the bonnet when i try to turn on the ignition. Ideas anyone? Had the car from new and never had a fault.
