Default Headlamps don't always light up

I've noticed some weirdness with my HID headlamps. Sometimes one of them doesn't "light up" but most times it does. It does this very unpredictably maybe 10% of the time (although that is often hard to tell since I don't regularly park in front of a wall and it seems that most times when I get out both lights are on).

The igniters have been replaced. I keep waiting for it to stay off so I can have my mechanic check it out, but it's not regular enough to bring it in.

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the bulb. Easy to check just swap side to side and see if anything changes. Any idea of the age of the bulbs? I have my original on the passenger side and it is a bit dimmer than the drivers side which has been replaced.

Could be a ballast problem to if the the problem stays on the same side after swapping bulbs.
