Hello and help!
Hello to all
Did two things today - bought a 2000 3litre S type and joined your excellent forum!
Driving this truly wonderful car back from Bristol to Manchester I thought 'hang on a minute - 4500 revs and 67mph something wrong here! All of sudden (yes you probably guessed it!) Gearbox Fault on the dash.
I stopped and had a think: I figured the auto box was not changing up to top gear. I put it in 'manual' and it worked fine - shifted it over to 'D' and it was 3200 revs 70mph Aha!!. I stopped at Tesco 5miles from home and it did it again. Damn.
So, can anyone direct me to a 'fix' or thread or something please as I've had a go myself and am not getting too far as I can't find anything about it not changing into top.
I have a fully equipped workshop and am a restorer of Porsches and a Volvo 122s Amazon at the moment.
Thanks in advance

Welcome, and we'll remember to avoid direct eye contact and quick hand motions
First thing you want to do is determine the age and health of the battery. These cars are not at all tolerant of anything less than 100% at all times. Make sure all electrical connections and earth points are perfect.
Let us know if the fault persists.

Just so you know, the 2000 autobox is the 5-speed Ford 5R55N. Very common (in the USA) and quite cheap parts & oil. About the only very common failure is the 4-3 pre-stroke spring Sonnax - Aftermarket replacement transmission, torque converter, and high performance automotive parts but I'm not sure whether that's the problem.
You're in the UK so there's no doubt local places etc but hang on and see what others post to assist in diagnosis.
