Default Help please

Hi all a little help please.,

I had the s type plugged in 3 days ago and the fault wich was shown on dash by the amber engine management light was bank 1 cat running below efficiency. Had fault cleared and all was good.

Today I replace air filter and the amber light came back on. I disconnected the battery and it's gone again. And I've gone roughly 20 miles and it's still not back.

I am going to get a obd tool of some one can point me in the right direction for getting one in the uk. So I will pull the codes.

But do we think it is the same cat fault or something to do with air filter?
I pulled the whole air box out and checked the filter for fit and good seal. All is well here and I never knocked or bumped mad sensor etc.

Also would the fault show up again instantly?

If you had the mass airflow meter disconnected(you must have done this to get the airbox off) and had the igniton on before reconnecting it,that will give you a check engine light when you actually start the car.

Read codes PDF in stickies (& in JTIS) for explanation.

See General Tech for OBD tool.

Take a look here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...-%2A%2A-33347/ the elm 327 is one of the cheap and cheerful ones you can find on ebay and will cover most simple tasks.

The cheap ones are in the thread but maybe you didn't see. There is a point though where you're driving an expensive car that would be expensive to take to a dealer yet aren't willing to spend a modest amount for a tool that will last years, and should just buy it!
