Question HID not working...

My right hand HID low-beam stopped working couple of days ago. So I swamped the igniters and nothing happened. Then I tried to do the same with the bulbs and nothing again... So not only am I frustrated, but now neither side will work... How do I know if it is the bulb, the igniter or the ballast?

By the way I promise the fuses and relays are all working and in the right place. (Inside joked).

Did you swap everything at once or 1 at a time?

Its the ballast. The ballast go out more than the ignitors or burners and since you already swapped. Pm me i have used ones

Did you get the little connectors back into the ignitors correctly? You cannot insert them in until the igniter is correctly locked onto the burner. Theres an internal lock in the way and keeps the connector from being installed. Either that or you took out both lights. Recheck them. Its a common mistake to think the connector is in

From looking at the schematics of my s-type I think the HID's are externally fused individually and use relays, where the stock headlights dont. SO if all the parts you swapped work on the other side, that may be the problem.

Yes George, the fuses and realys are all working, what really gets me is how it was working on one side and now is not working at all on either side, and I even after have tried couple of times... Well, at this point I’m even considering swapping the system to a generic HID system, like the one on my BMW. Cause I was just looking at the parts and every little part is worth quite a bit, and with none of them working there is no way to narrow it down, so I will be buying all of them, and even if I bought them used it will be way more than I want to spend. A generic HID kit is not more than $40 shipped.

Then the problem is figuring out the connector's pins, cause the STR HID didn’t looked standard to me.

Ok first thing is first.

You checked fuses and relays? Have you confirmed with a meter that you have power going to both ballasts?

Second, you swapped igniters and bulbs left to right, and the same side consistently doesn't work?

I think you have a bad ballast. You could theoretically use a genneric HID kit, just get one with D2s bulbs (so they will fit in properly). Everything except possibly power going to the ballasts should be plug and play.

If you are looking at the schematic from JTIS, you need to take the power (+) from the ignitor and wire that to the aftermarket ballast (+) side, and of course the negative from the aftermarket ballast to the ignitor (-). negative should not be on ground because the CAN-BUS will not like you very much it will work but it will report LAMP OUT, because of the insuffiecent resistance.

Excuse my ignorance, but the igniter just twisted in and there is not an actual wire and/or plug that I can fish the (+) or (-) from (in less I take the head lights apart?). I did see a small harness with about 4 wires in green color only. It wasn't plugged to anything though, it was just seating there...

thats 4 wire connector goes into the back(side) of the ignitor, this is the connector I said has to be connected after the ignitor is twisted in as there is a lock to keep that connector from plugging in until the ignitor is seated in place
