2003 S-Type 3.0 High Mileage
I have a 2003 S-type 3.0 with 194000 miles. I have the lurch & tranny slipping. Trying to get in touch with Motorcarman in Decatur, Tx, but no response as of today on his address. Received rebuild quote 2450 with 3yr/36k warranty. Radiator burst, replaced with all hoses. Ac/heating issues, passenger vent will not fully close. Evaporator needs to be replaced; appears blockage.
Paint in great condition, some minor clear coat peeling on the bumpers. Inside is in showroom condition.
Love my Jag & trying to keep. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I have 210000kms (130487miles) on my 2000 3.0 S Type, bought it at 180000kms and have had to take the JGate interlock solenoid out of the equation and replaced the parking pawl (cured the won't-get-out-of-park problem), replaced all the coils (didn't need to do them all but while you're there under hard side), just this weekend replaced the expansion tank, chased an aircon problem (turned out to be a $30 valve on the compressor) and that's it. Nothing really, the our-of-park was a design flaw, the plastic tank was bound to go after so long and the aircon thing was a fluke. I've also had the auto trans serviced (sealed for life my foot).
I love this car, and after getting over the whole "ooohhh it's a Jag, it's mysterious and hard to work on and expensive to run!" thing I can honestly say it's no big deal (unless it's electrics, not so good with them) to do the day to day servicing and running repairs. Most things a mechanic will do I can do myself, and love learning about my black cat. It makes me love it more...

Still Running
I am now at 221,989. Just got my oil changed and yes, there are a few issues. Firstly, NONE of the issues are engine related. The engine compartment is dusty but looks good for 12 years. The car starts great and runs great. The engine, knock on wood, is great. It is other things that are slowly breaking.
I always carry a 5 gallon jug of 5W-30 oil. I always check my oil and top off if needed when I get gas.
For instance, I do have a catalyst error due to my catalytic converter not working that well. Since I use torque, I normally clear the error, mostly to save the amber alert bulb in case another error occurs.
I replaced my headlights several years ago and the passenger side low beam is no longer working. I am not sure if it is bulb or ballast but there is not much room to troubleshoot. Besides, I cannot find a good price for a whole replacement. In the meantime high beams work well.
I think I must have warped one of my front rotor because I can feel the shudder when I brake. I will just have to buy the set and fix that problem.
On the suspension, I replaced a few things and I have a few more to change. GREAT news is, my tires wear evenly, after all these highway miles. I have noticed throughout the years I get my money's worth.
The driver and passenger seats are cracked (not ripped) and worn. The backseats however are pristine as hardly anyone ever sits back there.
I have cracks in the plastic here and there and lost/missing plastic covers for the visor mirror, seats etc. These are all cosmetic so I am not as concerned about them as the engine and transmission.
The paint job is good but I do have scratches and areas that really need a great cleaning. Unfortunately ALL the places I have been saying they could fix these areas couldn't. The areas that need help are mostly on the top.
One last thing, the clutch is original. There are times I have killed the engine accidentally because I forgot the engine was on and the gear shift was in first. This is a good sign my clutch is hanging in there.
I love this car, I just wish the labor was not so high. Even some of the parts make one second guess if they should buy.

Funny, my wife called while I was reading this thread and said the Jag (163k miles) is running good, I'd been fighting a stumble at idle, and some misfires while driving. First time it said cyl 6 misfire, and exh/cat codes also, so new coil. Still did it, but code was cyl 5 misfire, replaced that coil and plug. I didn't reset codes, but after a day or two it was running good, didn't last long though, and same code, cyl 5. I figured maybe a bad coil, it was cheap from Rockauto, so I ordered two more, put one in, didn't help at first, but now it's running better.
Doing a road trip to Indiana, will take the extra coil along, at least they were easy to get to. Oh, no other major problems, took the intake off to replace the rubber elbow, and new coils/plugs at same time, probably 30k miles ago, and before that was a radiator hose spider assembly.

Wow, that's a rare cat.
Ours has 103, adding 10-12k/yr.
Just had a scare with the "restricted performance" warning. Codes were 0171 0174. I found a cracked vacuum hose right on top of the intake so it was a quick and easy repair.

I have 119,873 on my 2008 S 4.2 base and have only experienced regular maintenance (brakes, oil, coolant, transmission, etc.). I drive it everywhere across America. I prefer my car over the rude sardine starvation coma induced environment of an airliner. (Sad comment coming from a 63 year old male that has been a pilot since he was 17.) It has been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Right now is the first real non-regular maintenance repair I have made to the car. My #2 bank fuel dampener started to leak and I need to locate a fuel rail. They do not make them anymore and I was lucky to locate one at Coventry West. I am replacing it this afternoon.

I bought my S-Type with 100,000 miles on it, or 160,00 klms as we have over here. I got it cheap, knowing I'd have to spend a bit of money on it, mainly rebuilding the suspension & servicing the transmission, which i did straight after purchasing it. The car probably owes me around $15K, all up, at this point. & I'm just coming up to six years of very satisfied motoring, & the odo's just turning over 240K Klms (150K miles).

My 2005 S-Type 3.0 crossed the 100,000-mile threshold earlier this week. I still enjoy the car and while I keep saying I plan to sell it during 2017, I may have a hard time doing so because it continues to perform exactly as expected and its repair costs have been relatively modest during the past year. So we'll see....

I have had 3- Type S Jags. and still love them (maybe just looks and price). The 2002 was traded with 200,000 miles when the AC quit. The repair was going to cost more than the car value. The 2004 is still being used at 124,000 miles. I am currently replacing the serpentine belt and the trunk module for Park. I am also driving a newly purchased 2008 with 103,000 miles. The the transmission is going and is leaking water from the pump. You gotta love them to work on them!!
