Hissing noise in brake system, help!
I have noticed for a while now that when I press the brake pedal it goes lower to the ground then it should, and I have a hiss noise when I press it. I purchased and had a reman booster installed from rockauto.com about a year ago, and changed the brake booster hose as well. I was under the hood the other day and noticed that when I moved the hose around that connects to the booster it was making a hissing noise. I am pretty sure that is what I am hearing when I press the brakes. But if the part was reman and a new hose was put on, why would it still be doing this? The brakes are not terribly bad, but can def feel the difference from having "Great Brakes" to "OK" brakes. AAny help I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.
Sounds like a really bad vacuum leak. You might try a new hose, but it might be a bad vac booster (or have a crack in it). Be careful, as you have found out, your braking is very diminished while you have that leak.
thanks mike for that info. I figured that was the cause. I mean the brakes feel ok, but are not that great. The booster was reman so I wonder if it was still bad. And the hose is new. I do have a extended warranty on the car and I can bring it to a mechanic and have them put a new one in with a hose. What do you think they run new? I have a CAP on the warranty on the value of the car so I don't wanna use up all my money, saving it for tranny and or engine issues in the future if needed. thanks.
To be honest, I have no idea how much the part costs. You should be able to find it on rockauto though. I've replaced brake boosters (not on Jaguars) and they are a bit of a pain to do, but can be done with normal handtools in a few hours time.
