I need advice please 1999 S-Type
I have the cross flow pipe off the other car, it turns but does not pop up either, however the one on my car did come up under pressure when motoor was warm. The bleeding instructions are confusing me. They talk of a heater air bleed screw on the expansion tank and there is not one. At instruction line 11 it says install the expansion tank cap it does not say to put that cabp back on before line 15. Line 15 says "15. Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes, adding coolant to the expansion tank to maintain the COLD FILL MAX level" line 16 says "16. Open the heater air bleed to release any trapped air, close the heater air bleed." There is no Air bleed. and line 20 says "20. Fill the expansion tank until the coolant flows from the engine air bleed screw and expansion tank is full". I opened the engine air bleed with the motor running tried to bleed air that way. the engine came up hot again. noticing water coming from exhaust, more than I like to see, very confused now. I wish one of my brothers were here they are car gurus, I became an accountant. At 65 yea'rs old, guess I will just have to learn myself.

Three points to be made on bleeding the cooling system on the 3.0 litre engine:
- Use extreme caution whilst removing the 'bleed' fitting on the plastic pipe as that is a known failure point.
- Have the HVAC system set to 'Hi' to bleed any air from the heater core.
- There is no need to fully remove the plug from hose near the expansion tank as coolant should begin to drip out.
