Exclamation Idle pulse and acceleration hesitation??

Hi, I am new to Jaguars and new to the forums. What I have is a 2001 S-Type with the 3.0L and 88,000kms. The problem is, when I'm at an idle it pulses back and forth between about 700 and 1000 rpms. It only seems to do it every once and awhile. The bigger problem is when I am accelerating the car feels like it starts jerking and struggling to get up to speed in second gear around 3000rpm. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I don't want to take it in to a garage without having some sort of basic idea what the problem is, so I don't get ripped off.

Thanks

Sounds like an intermittent miss caused by a coil pack on it's way out..

Is there a way to figure out which one or do you just have to replace all of them?
