Default Ignition coils vs. direct ignition coils

Still looking into my misfire issue and got pleanty of good info here on what to look for etc. I haven't gotten to check codes just yet but in looking into prices for parts shoould I need them I found some coils on partsgeek.com and it shows ignition coils and direct ignition coils for my 2001 4.0. What is the difference and how can I tell the difference?

Thanks!

All I know is they changed from time to time so you may have to pull one to compare!

For the very low cost of a USB elm327, just get one and read those codes

Hey jagv8, finally got all my ducks in row. I do have a ACTRON CP9135 to read the codes which I bought originally for our 1999 Ford Taurus. Turns out I just went for the ignition coil replacement not specifying anything. I just went to a local parts store called PepBoys for the replacements at $44 USD ea. not a bad price really. The codes indicated first a P0302 and after replacing that coil the I got a P0304 and that second coil did the trick. Runs so smooth you gotta check it's still running. Since my fat hands don't fit too well, especailly on the drivers side (brake booster) I figured I'd just replace the plugs as well so hopefully I'm done for a while. Had to wait a bit between the coil replacements since a lady cut the wife off and she t-boned her. Both the women are fine and the other lady's insurance accepted blame so the Jag is back looking as pretty as ever with some better parts then she left with ....lol

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry to hear about the t-bone, but great to hear the jag's running good! 10 years old, too.
