Default Instrument cluster

Hi
This has been like this since I brought the car
And now is bugging me 2004 4.2
It has to do with message center in the middle of the instrument cluster
Everything is working like odometer fuel range clock
But it is very dark
Everything else like speedo revs fuel w temp are Illuminated and you can see then clearly at night
expect message center and you almost need to climb through the steering wheel to read it

i can not find anything have found where people have lost all display
but i have display just very hard to read
Dark all the time
Everything else in car lights up
have added some pictures you can see odometer ect clearly in photos but sitting in car you can not read it
Everything else lights up perfectly

Thanking you
Darrol

This thread covers a similar problem with an early model:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ype-faq-45129/

Perhaps it's something like that on your 2004? Maybe inspect the circuit board with a magnifying glass, in search of a cold solder joint or bulging capacitor.

Hey that's pretty cool! I had no idea that a 2004 S-Type could come with push button start?
My 2005 S-Type R still had the older switch blade TIBBE key?

.Hi my s type came with the blade tibbel key
as well
but when I had a key break and asked jaguar new Zealand about a replacement I was giving a price of $900 nzd each and I had to purchase 2 and ignition barrel also started to play up as well
I already had installed a push button start in my v12 BMW e38 750il

jaguar was pretty easy to do

I still have all the functions as I did with the tibbe key
The ignition is still connected as well so if something went wrong I can still use key to start vehicle just would need to remove start button which is held on with double sided tape

What i like about it is you can remote start engine on cold days

if you remote start and do not hop in and put foot on brake engine will turn off after 10 minutes

when you park and walk away to shop for example vehicle will lock automatically indicators still flash

when you walk to vehicle it will unlock automatically
but the only thing I have not quite worked out yet is if you let it automatically unlock alarm will start the beeping as they do
so once I find out how to disable that or the alarm wires to horn it will be working perfectly
just need to find out how to disable the factory alarm
as push button start has a alarm built-in as well
cheers

Hey great mod!
I think you should write up all the details and maybe post a few pictures too as I bet some of the S-Type guys would jump on that.
I know if I still had the STR I would consider doing it.

.thank you
I was planning on doing a post
As I was told you could not do a push button start on a s type because of the switched Earth

I still have the photos
but do not want to post until I have it working 100%
Hopefully you can understand that
The only problem i have now is when car automatically unlocks the alarm will start beeping until you push the start button
also if someone opens passenger door alarm will go off

maybe I should ask on the forum for help and then I can do a complete writeup on it
cheers
