Default J004 emissions recall - will this fix the ZF "lurch"

Hello,

I was planning on taking my '05 S-Type in to have a TCM reflash to fix the lurch (type 1 lurch which I understand is pretty much fixable with a reflash). Then I received the J004 recall notice which stated it included a TCM reflash.

The new service manager I am dealing with at Imperial Motors in northern Illinois decided to be a dick with me and insisted that the type 1 lurch is normal and unfixable (the previous guy there said it was fixable or at least minimizable). After 5-10 minutes of arguing, he changed his tune and stated the TCM reflash covered by the recall will fix it.

This makes sense to me that downloading the newest software would include all patches/fixes but with an auto manufacturer one can never be sure.

Thanks,
Walt

Okay, I'll answer my own question here in case anybody might want this info. The emissions recall reflash definietly fixed the ZF lurch in my car.

I've driven the car a couple hundred miles now pretty much all stop and go and the type 1 lurch that happened a lot previously has not happened a single time. Just as an FYI, I drive like an old lady on the street so your results may vary.

Later,
Wally

The lurch is cause by adaptive shift strategy "drifting" from where it should be. It learns driving style and adjusts accordingly.. When it drifts, you get a slightly harsh engament when coming to a stop..can be enough to make you look in your rear view mirror cause you think someone just bumped you. The fix is clearing transmission adaptations and reflash with latest software, and 004 does this exact thing..but since its a computor it doesnt meen that it cant creep up again in the future
