Default Jaguar S-Type Gearbox fault

Hello there, back in 2006 I bought a jaguar s-type 2004 with 5,000 miles. everything seemed good with the car, it had no issues until 2010. The error the car showed said :” gear box fault” and this made my car go really slow and could not pass 5mph or a really slow speed, it restricted my car speed. I took the car to the mechanics and they said the transmission had to be changed, I did what they said($1,500 or more) and initially it did worked for 1 month or so. After that the same old problem not fixed, I didn’t trust the mechanics so my car is still unused since then and now I want to repair it and used it again. My car still starts and the engine is practically new(28,000 miles). Car battery is new btw. I have seen on youtube/ forums that in the worst case scenario I had to change the transmission and as I did, it didn’t solve the issue. I saw recently a video where someone had the same problem as me, the mechanics told the same as me, he also changed the transmission and it didn’t work. He then after reading forums changed the shifter box( where the car is in drive, reverse etc) and he said it solved the problem. So, what do you guys recommend me to do, and how much do you think It can cost me the worst/best scenario?

Let's begin with two basic pieces of information:
  1. What is the voltage across the battery terminals with the ignition in the OFF position when checked with a voltmeter?
  2. What DTCs are stored in the system?

Precisely right @NBCat . @Johndox10 , a transmission failure at only 28k is exceptionally odd. Worst yet, a replacement at $1500. I can’t imagine it was a dealer you went to. Begs the question, what did they do? I’m with NBCat. Let’s confirm a proper battery, a system reset, a test drive, then codes.

Welcome to the forums Johndox10,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-Type forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

Default Thanks for responding

Tomorrow I’ll Have a mechanic come by my house to do these tests. He’ll bring the scanner also to see the DTCs and I’ll let you know asap.

Once you get your problem sorted, a transmission fluid change might be in order'; yes, your total mileage is about half the service interval, but the original fluid has been in place for 15 years...

Default Started the car

Hi mates, today we started the car. Yesterday the car couldn’t start and the mechanic said it was the fuel bomb. We changed the fuel bomb and the car initially did work. After turning off the car, It didn’t start again. The fuel bomb moved and the engine was not getting fuel. He then rearranged the bomb and the car started again, today the car showed some transmission code errors and the mechanic restarted the system and after that the transmission codes disappeared, only remaining O2 sensors code errors. I ran the car with the mechanic besides me to see if the gear box fault appeared or some transmission code errors, and weirdly enough, it didn’t. We speeded the car up in hills, in downhills, every type of test you could give to the car, after that it never appeared the gear box fault. After that, the car was parked and turned off, we wanted to start it again and it seems that once again, the fuel bomb moved. Do you think the gear box fault could be fixed? What do you recommend me to do with the problem of the fuel bomb? Where could I buy a new one if I needed to?

This is the whole thing, the mechanic just changed the fuel bomb which is inside the whole thing. It appears that it is not perfectly attached on the inside. What do you recommend me to do?

The fuel pump assembly should be aligned with the markings on the top of the cover and fitted with a new gasket/seal. DO NOT reuse the seal/o-ring or leaks will occur. The lower housing snaps into place in the tank to prevent it from moving around.

What DTCs are/were stored in the system? Simply erasing them does not provide the information needed for a correct diagnosis.

What is the voltage across the battery terminals with the ignition in the OFF position when checked with a voltmeter?

Two years ago my fuel pump died, replaced for $120 (the whole assembly) from autozone just because I can't wait a week to receive it from rockauto (could save half) Where are you located?
