Hello forum members just picked up my first s type and she is running pretty rough on cold start up. Is there any to look out for this model the previous owner said she only runs rough when it's cold and mentioned something about throttle valve? I'm leaning towards coils and spark plugs.
Welcome. Congrats on the new-to-you S-type! Changing the plugs and coils under the intake on the right side of the engine is a bit of a chore, so you might want to get a scan for trouble codes run prior to attempting this. Every S-type owner should have a Jaguar specific OBD-II code reader. A used, older iCarsoft i930, or LR-II won't break the bank and will come in handy down the road...
In terms of replacement coil-packs, stick with original or OEM units (Denso, NGK, Delphi, etc.) Run, don;t walk away from no-name parts from that famous auction site as these may be produced by the Sum Ting Wong Parts Manufactory of Flung Dong. China; these are almost guaranteed to give you problems.
You might want to add your general location to the profile display as this does help. You also should post the expected "intro" in the New Members Forum, which can be found here:
Very good advice from S-Type owner!
Plan to DIY the car or it WILL be a money pit.
Now you came to the right place because all the problems and maintenance stuff is on this forum.
You need to get the codes read before loading the parts cannon! But yes I agree at this late date the car is sure to need plugs and coils BUT you could easily have one or more additional problems hiding in there too.

Sounds good, I will pickup the i980 carsoft since they're fairly cheap on Amazon here in Canada. Looks like the incorrect coolant(pink) was being used it's supposed to be dex cool (orange) right? I'm looking forward to wrenching away and restoring her. Thanks for the quick replies
When you get a chance, ttest your battery with a tester or take it to the parts store. Most test for free. These cars are sensitive to fading batteries and it will screw with you at times.
Those short term trims are too high. Being both sides I would focus on vacuum leak in the common portion of the intake like air filter housing and breather pipes. Check for oil dripping from the back IMT valve seals.

Also, remove the intake between the MAF and the throttle body and check to see if the somewhat rectangular shaped resonator chamber is intact; these can become brittle and break at the bottom corners, which cannot be readily seen without removal. This damaged portion of the airway and resultant air leak caused a forum member immeasurable grief a few years ago.
Replaced coils and plugs on the drivers side bank. Also was a sketchy hose with some space for air to escape from the air filter which I shored up with gorilla tape and now she's running mint. Not sure if it was the coils and plugs or the loose air filter hose. Do want to replace the passenger side coils and plugs but first I need to figure out where all the bolts are. Does anyone know of a YouTube video of it? I found one for the pre 2003 V6 but not the updated v6. ODB scanner arrived today and looks like they sent an lr1.0 not the i930. Are these any good or should I send it back since I was supposed to be receiving an i930

Fuel trims look good but will order new air box and hose eventually. If you think gorilla tape is no good you don't want to see the "aftermarket" air hose they were using on this poor car for who knows how long.

So they just got back to me and said the obd scanner is the same as the i930. So what is the difference with icarsoft since it seems to do the exact same things my cheap scanner does

In basic OBD-II mode. things will be more or less the same; but, the iCarsoft unit will read transmission and chassis codes, which "el cheapo" will not be able to handle...
