Default Key Programming.

Hi Everyone!
I have a 2004 S Type V8 that I bought without the key. I had a key made in the dealership but it now needs to be programed.
They tell me I need 2 keys so I have to buy another one so that they can program it but the issue is that since the car can't be driven without the key working, it'll need to be towed!
It's going to take me a whole morning to have it towed, programmed and back, not to mention the excessive dealership cost.
Does anyone has any advice in this regard?
The key the dealer made works on the doors, ignition and trunk, it's just not programmed to start the car.
Thanks!

mine was cut and programmed by a mobile lock smith with a snap on diagnostic tool.
try calling around to see if any local lock smiths have the means to do so for you .

Look on eBay to purchase second FOB.

Your key is called a Tibbe. Google locksmiths that can cut and program near you.

I always thought one had to have the dealer software to program the the car & key to accept each other for starting? So now locksmiths can do that?
Of course mines been sitting since last fall and now it's up on jackstands getting brakes and suspension parts so it may have forgotten how to start and run by now!

It has been this way for a long time . I done my key replacements 5 years ago
And I know our local locksmith was doing it long before that .
These locksmith's or scan tools are licensed to use the dealer leval software , and eather payed to do so when they purchased the scan tool ,
Or are still paying via subscription .

Some locksmiths will just be making clone keys, that's not going to work in this case.
So make it clear that you don't have a working key at the moment.
Pity the dealer didn't spell out the process for you.

You could buy yourself an autoenginuty tool and the enhanced jaguar package. The interface tool costs 249 dollars and the package 222 dollars. I bought a refurbished one after I checked it it would work on my car. It cost a lot less but will only work up to 2004 cars. This may work out a lot expensive for you and you will have a tool which can read every module of the car.

Not a jaguar but same principle.
