Yesterday, out of the blue, my keyless remote stopped working to my 2005 S-type.

I thought the battery was dead so I changed it... still does not work.

What else can be the problem?

 

the fobs fail sounds like you need a fob and unfortunately you need to program it with the ids no short cut programming like x type and xj

I experience this regularly. I am sure it due to the very thin and insecure battery contact inside the fob coming lose. It the brass coloured thin piece of metal next to the battery. Check to see if it is properly in place first. I have found shaking or tapping the fob on my hand can be enough to restore it.

I have even found that just leaving it overnight is enough!? Try all of that first before you pay out any money on the fob.
