Unhappy Leaper just died

My leaper just died - fell of the car - good thing it was still parked - the steel cable that hold the ornament wit the spring rusted out. I guess the water got in the bottom of the spring and just stayed there without draining ( the hole in the bottom of the spring got plugged)... Should I repair it ??? or just get the new leaper ??? It seems that it is coming as a assembly with the plastic cover that you just push in the bonnet ) I found one at: Jaguar LEAPING JAGUAR LEAPER HOOD ORNAMENT EMBLEM, SPRING LOADED - XR857738-OE
When repairing - should the spring be a bit compressed when crimping the cable ??? Any ideas ??? I'm attaching pic of the wounded....

Cheers

Jan

Sorry to hear that mate, looks like its the best time for you to get the Badge! Since you have the non-SuperCharged they make ones for yours too. Good Luck.

Default Leaper fell off

Has anyone found a good source for the replacement spring. Mine fell off and the spring was lost. I have the Leaper can buy a piece of 1/16" SS cable and crimp but cannot find the spring.

I would venture a guess as to go to any hardware store, BIG box home store and have a looksie in the nut and bolt dept., The specialty bins have a great selection of different hardware available.

BTW looks like you will need a small washer of some type as well, to keep the new swagged end from popping through the spring.

Maybe take some pics of your fix and post them for others, thanks.

Yep done that but cannot find a spring stiff enough to stop the leaper rattling. Also not sure of the size (diameter) of the spring. Thx.
