Default LED Light Conversion

I am looking to replace my turn signal front and rear, brake lights and parking lights on my 2000 S-Type to LED. Has anyone done this and what lights did you use?

I haven't done it on the jaguar, but I have done it on my other car and you will need to change the turn signal relay to a led one or your turn signals will hyperflash.

Won’t the resister at each light perform the same function?

Load resistors on each circuit, not bulb (for the blinkers) will work fine.

Look up a thread by h20boy, he did his on his XK, and had a lot of feedback in terms what bulbs were good and which ones weren't.

Take care,

George

I did recall him doing it so I sent him a PM for a little info. I guess I wanted to see what others had to say good or bad. The turn signal bulbs get so hot that the yellow flakes and falls off and wanted to try the Led. So what you are saying I need a resister for each blinker bulb front and back (4)? I also found a host of bulbs ranging in configuration and I wanted to know which one is the best for the s-type. Thanks George!

Fwiw, I haven't done it in the Jag, but in other cars, it seems that ONE resistor on one of the bulbs of each side (left and right) was sufficient to simulate the load the flasher relay was looking for. The load resistors are cheap, but you have to be somewhat careful with the mounting because they tend to get hot.

It can't hurt. I have often thought about doing mine, but it's always been one of those "someday" projects.

Are you just looking to do the blinkers or the entire tail light?

Take care,

George

to me it would be so much easier to pull your flasher relay and buy one for led and you would not need to put load resistors in. Just pull out old bulbs and put in led's

Just my 2 cents

Here's the link I sent Gus via PM along with some other assistance. It has been 3 years since I did this, and not only have the bulbs never given me any issue (with the exception of the wire splice connector or two on the right side) but my securing method using that grey double-sided tape (the one that comes with a red backing) hasn't failed either after all this time. They are where I left them, even with long turn signal periods and brakelight use.

I didn't do my parking lamp in the rear tail light, the one that stays on the entire time if you're parking lights are on, after all, it wasn't needing improving with regards to a quicker activation our output, it just glows, and its not that bright anyway using only one filament of the dual-filament 1157 (double pole) bulb...which I found rather strange, but hey, I'm sure there is a reason.

I was going to start with the turn signals and then all in the rear and then the front. At the present time my shop and tools are in storage and I am near completed remodeling my condo and wanted to take on a few small projects and the lights were on my list.

I like the idea of the flasher relay, thank you for the link.

I did this to an old motorbike of mine. I really wouldn't bother. It's a lot more trouble, what with wiring and mounting the resistors, than it's worth. Just my 2p.

Yes there is a reason

The 1157 filaments are different, and designed for different usage patterns.

The taillight filament is a lower wattage, and rated at a higher voltage. That is meant to accomodate the usage pattern which is steady on at lower intensity. The brighter filament which is used for stop or turn signals depending on the application has higher wattage and rated at a lower voltage. That allows the filament to be brighter, but it has a shorter expected lifespan. That is acceptable in usage as a brake/turn signal filament because it is used less. So .... the filaments are done this way because the designer is trying to get the two to match up in terms of night driving hours where the tail light stays on the whole time, but the turn/brake light is used much less often.

Umm.... that's for incandescents.
