I recently acquired a Year 2000 S Type, and I am enjoying getting it cleaned up ready for getting out on the road. Didn't really notice when I picked it up, but when washing the car, I noticed some mesh covers over the main beams and the tail light cluster.

I have never seen this on a car before. Were these a Jaguar option? or has one of the previous owners just fitted some after market stuff on there?

I don't really like them, but I guess taking them off will make a real mess. I do have some refurbishment of the dipped headlights to do however - they are pretty cloudy!

Aftermarket I reckon. Don't recall such things before and I'm surprised they pass MoT.

 

Its very common in New Zealand . It's lady's stockings ! Very much a boy racer thing here ,
And illigal here as well , the cops make you cut it off on the side of the road or thay void your (warrant of fitness) with a green sticker .

 

Thanks Guys. As my Boy Racing days are long gone, and I am more of the flat cap type now, I really want the Jag to look more traditional. I think I'll have a go at removing the ones on the main beams first and see what mess it makes. Worst case I'll put some more second hand lamp units on.

 

Headlights look like they could use a cut and buff to get them clear?

They certainly do. I have one of the 3M kits which has worked well on my other car. However, first task will be to try and get the mesh off the main beams

 

Managed to get the mesh covering off and gave the main and dipped covers a refurb using a 3M cleaning kit. Looks more like a Jag should now

Unfortunately the mesh left some marking on the lens, but its not noticeable unless you get up close.
