Default Look before you leap

This is just a reminder of the importance of getting a "quality" pre-purchase inspection. I recently purchased a 2003 STR cosmetically in very good condition. I even had a mechanic (recommended and close to the dealer) check the car out ($80.00 and about 15 minutes). I even bought a short term power train warranty for a little piece of mind. A few days after my check was cashed, the transmission started having shifting problems. The warranty company rejected the Jag (returned my money at least) The "codes" suggested replacing the transmission. Some caring folks on this forum (JagV8) in particular)gave me some suggestions to try BEFORE replacing the transmission. One of those was contacting Brutal (forum member) which was the best thing I could have done. A trip to the local Jaguar dealer under Brutal's guidance and a fluid change and reflash confirmed a new transmission was in order. Brutal even led me to a shop to rebuild the transmission. My point is all of this could have been avoided with a little less trust and an honest independent inspection of the vehicle before purchasing. Secondly, this forum has some super members willing to to go way past my expectations. Plus, I found a new friend as car crazy as I am! I love the R even without a transmission.....

sorry to hear of your issues so close to purchase! The warranty company rejected your car? What were their grounds?

Default warranty refusal

They gave me two reasons; first, no turbo or supercharged cars including BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini Cooper, and several other high end vehicles. Second, the repair history of Jaguars. In short, people driving supercharged cars usually drive extremely aggressive causing high mechanical repairs. No proof supporting their position was given or available. Simply "company policy". By the way, I picked up the "R" yesterday after almost two weeks and with a rebuilt (and warrantied) transmission. I decided to have my original transmission rebuilt. It now shifts perfectly plus the whole car seems to be working better. May be all the computer reflashing and updates. Wasn't cheap but necessary and way beyond my Mechanical abilities. one last point, no classic or specialty auto insurance companies will insure it. I'm told. The S_Types are not classics or "special".
