Default Shoud I buy a 2006 S-Type 3.0L V6?

I learned over the many years - most vehicles have inherent problems, weather they eat alternators, electrical issues, etc. I'm looking to find out if the 2006 S-Type 3.0L V6 have one or more. What problems will I be looking to have? The one I'm looking at has 65,000 miles - should I run or buy?

(see post #3 for more details - GGG)

Welcome to the forum LadyinMidlo,

Don't forget your intro in the new members section.

The 3.0 S Type has several common problems, some reading here will reveal all, most of them are fairly easily resolved. Records of good maintenance by the previous owner are important, as is whether you are able to work on the car yourself or need to pay a garage to do it.
Get it checked by a competent mechanic familiar with S Types and if all is good there is no need for running.

Default Looking to Purchase, Need Second Opinion

2006 S-Type 3.0L 235-horsepower 3V6, six-speed automatic transmission, rear wheel drive with 59,000 mi many hwy (to & from FL.), one 50+ owner, very clean, one 3 ft scratch on rear bumper $7 k.

Need my 2 sons, experienced with US cars & trucks need to be able to work on it ? Any inherent problems, such as electrical, eats alternators, lemons, recalls, etc? Does it require more work than the 4.2 version? Pros and Cons?

If you were female, who wouldn't put many miles, driving mostly around town, but need 7 days a week, would you purchase this car?

Thanking you in advance!

Ditto Norri above. Make sure you have a mechanic in your family for odds and ends that crop up, otherwise your checkbook will be taxed.

You already asked... but with fewer details ... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-0l-v6-188223/

You won't be loved if you keep doing this sort of thing.

Nina,

I've moved your post from General Tech Help and merged it with the earlier thread you posted about the same question. Multiple posting the same question across forums annoys a lot of members and is not the most efficient way to get an answer.

If I needed a car to be reliable as a daily driver, I'd think very carefully before buying any eleven years old vehicle. That being said, a well maintained Jaguar is a good possibility.

These were an expensive vehicle when new and parts costs reflect that. Aside from the normal consumables of brakes and tyres, model specific parts, especially from Jaguar, are high cost. Expertise, if you have to pay for it, is also higher than less prestigious marques.

You get a lot of car for your money but you could need a lot more money to keep it running.

S-types are as reliable as any other high end car of the same era. Repair costs of a given component might be double that of a more mainstream car. If you would be reliant upon a dealership or exotic car mechanic to do the servicing then the costs will escalate again.

If your budget can handle this then the car in question might be a good candidate Have an experienced mechanic look it over stem to stern.
