Default Looking for reman or new power steering pump

Hello All, I have searched and I'm only finding pumps in the $378 range. Is there anything cheaper out there than a used one for a 2003 STR? Mine is whining a bit and I'm having the A/C unit replaced so I figured it might be a good time to do the P/S pump at the same time.

Appreciate the help all.

Your P/S pump may be whining because of the A/C. Whats wrong with the A/C? They are on the same belt so if something is wrong with the A/C effecting the way the belt goes around may be putting a strain on the P/S pump so may only be the A/C thats messed up.

Last time it was in the dealership they topped it off with freon, however issue on the A/C is that while driving it's cold, but when you idle (stop light) it no longer gets cold. When you start to drive again it's fine. They noted that the compressor was not putting out the normal pressure it should be and the compressor may be failing. It is not leaking though.

I would look at that first. If your compressor is failing depending on what its doing it may be straining the belt causing the power steering to whine since its not spinning at the proper speed. You could put a volt meter on the battery while running and see if your battery charge is not steady since your alternator is also on that belt as well. Does your power steering whine when you have the A/C off? I would try turning off the climate control all together and see if your power steering is normal after that. If its normal its only the A/C and once thats fixed your P/S pump will go back to normal. Also I'm sure you already have but have you checked your P/S level. You may be low then you would have to find out where it went. I'm not sure how much P/S pumps fail but it always seems to be either run dry cause of a leak or a belt problem. I have never actually blown the pump.

Ok I'll give that a try, thank you. They quoted 3-4 hrs labor for the A/C pump....sweet. Now they are saying that it also could be the aux fan switch but that should be a fairly easy one to see if it's working or not.
