wiring for factory Nav
Hello all. I am helping a friend install the factory Nav unit in her 2001 S-type 3.0. After reading the posts and telling her what everyone else here has said about the factory units, she was disappointed to hear that she should have gone aftermarket. That said, is the car pre-wired for the Nav unit (the one that replaces the little drawer next to the stereo) with factory connectors in the trunk? If so, are they on the right side of the trunk and behind the stereo?
Thanks
Thanks
Are the NAV CDs still available??????
There are 9 CD ROMs for USA and I don't think any are very current.
Last update was probably about 2003.
I also don't remember the cars having the harness if not factory installed.
Nav and Voice had to be ordered as options but CD player and Phone could be installed at a later date.

i have the same year make and yes like xjrguy stated you will be gutting the car but i hard wired the harness from the nave screen to the dvd mod and power and ground and that worked fine the screen didnt come on but its a red light that indicated yhat it did have power after that the mod have to be hooked up to different mods in the back of the car i didnt get that far because i figured after doing all that now or later you will have to keep getting the cds to update it and like androulakis said you can really save going that way im installing one myself it fits perfect ill post the pictures when im finish so you can see it
Thank you so much all. I spoke with her after I posted my original question and she immediately packed everything that she had purchased back up. Luckily, she will be able to return the CD unit and she should be able to sell the nav on ebay just as she bought it (for someone who already has one that may be broken of course). I know that there are several versions of the TomTom out there. Someone mentioned getting the one that will fit in the space and direct mount it. Do you happen to know off hand which model that is? No worries if not, I will just measure the space and check the nav specs. She wants to keep her stock radio (I don't know why, in that model year, it isn't that attractive).
Thanks again all for your input.
