Maintenance/Oil Change, Etc.

RE: Maintenance/Oil Change, Etc.
Your mechanic is either stuck in the 40's or just playing CHA. Todays oil is easily good for 5000 miles, and probably longer if you have it analyzed.
Synthetics are good for more miles, I use Amsoil 5W-30 full-synthetic and they guanantee it for one year or 25K miles. We haven't pushed it to the 25K limit as we only put about 12K on our van and 6K on the Jag a year. Because of the superior lubrication, anti-sheering, and other superior qualities of full-synthetic I wouldn't use anything else. There are others that would take exception to that and say regular oil works well enough for the 10,000 miles, and is less expensive.
If your going to use regular oil have a sample tested at 5K to see how it's doing.
Here is a good website, among many, with loads of information, probably more than most of us need to know. http://www.motor-oil-engineers.com/?hop=0
Hope this helps.

RE: Maintenance/Oil Change, Etc.
When I was at the jag dealer they had a pamphlet that showed the intervals for service of our jags and it showed oil change every 5,000 miles. It had a stepping stone every five thousand miles and showed all of the service you should have done. It had everything you needed to do to it including tire rotations and all of that kind of stuff. The dealer at least gave it 5k instead of the normal 3k that everyone says. So maybe 15k isn't out of the question-everyone is out to make some money! By the way my crotch rocket had to be changed every 1k to 1500 miles which when going to work and back and riding whenever you get the chance didn't take as long as you car guys might think! And my oil filter was 15 dollars as well as the non-synthetic oil I use is $5 a quart and it takes 5 quarts!!!
