Moon Roof - Interior sliding cover

Moon Roof - Interior sliding cover
The part of the headliner that covers the interior moonroof slider (not sure what to call it) has gotten stained and is coming off. The Jaguar manuals I've downloaded don't seem to mention anything about the moonroof. Has anyone gotten any information about how to repair or replace this part? I'm not even sure how to remove the unit.
Thanks,
Joe

Well known problem. Really the only repair is to remove the panel strip the glue and old material off. Spray glue and recover with new head liner material. If you can DIY it will be a cheap repair. Otherwise it will be expensive and the shop will probably damage additional things unless they are very experienced working on S-Types. With the age of your car all the plastic is brittle and you don't want to cause additional expensive problems!
I would forget replacement unless your plastic panel is broken. Don't know if you can get one anymore and the price will be high!
Is the Moonroof operating properly? I ask because there are nice repair kits out now for the Moonroof and you will be in that area anyway if you do the cover?

I have the same issue. I was told you can squeeze the headliner out the back door. Headliner has to come down to access the mainframe of the moonroof. Experts remove the rear glass and take liner out that way. I sripped mine down to the bare cloth backing and used my seat colorant to paint. Looks pretty good. If i did the recover i would try to drop the liner and see if i could still work in there and remove the framework that has to be out of the way to remove the sliding cover. One good thing is all the moonroof stuff comes out the top so i think it could be done off of a stool. Like previously stated the plastic holders are old and brittle so that would be an issue to deal with beforehand. If you want to take a look you pivot the accordian flaps inward and you can see the bolts holding the glass. Remove those and the glass comes out top. Then you can see what holds the panel from moving enough to remove. The flaps are glued at the frame. Once you break them loose pivot them. They are easy to reglue or attach good ole velcro tabs like i did
