Default My leaper is gone

S-Type 3.0

Somebody stole my leaper. The dealer has quoted a price of $277.50. Anyone know of a source that can beat this? All I need is the emblem itself. The mounting plate remains.

Wow..sorry to hear that. Exactly why I am replacing mine with a badge. Its only a matter of time before I get mine ripped off, and knowing my luck, they will probably do some serious damage to the hood while they are at it. I will sell you my leaper when my badge comes in the mail.

My condolences as well. No hood damage at all?

Hi Toller,

You may want to try this:

It should at least get you in the ballpark hopefully.

Nope. No damage at all. The figure is a break-away.

I've checked ebay and a couple of choices may work but I'll also check the source that you gave Mike.

Thanks.

I realize this isn't earth shattering and I appreciate all the help I'm getting.

In looking at various options, the apparent method of attachent is two holes in the hood. However, this seems to be for the base. The leaper itself attaches in the forward hole with some kind of a spring thingie. Will I be able to attach a new leaper to the existing baseplate or do I have to remove my baseplate and put on the whole thing? The reason I ask is that the method of attachment is a bit strange in order to make the leaper a break-away object.

So in summary, do I need or need to attach the whole thing, figure and baseplate, or can I plan on attaching only the figure?

My leaper is here. Thanks to Ken from British Parts, I got a very good deal.

Now however I have a problem. The baseplate has an adhesive and the old one can't be easily removed. I'm afraid to put any kind of a lever on the problem as the tip of a screwdriver could scratch and the fulcrum might put a dent in the hood. Any ideas?

If I am understanding correctly wouldn't some floss/fishing line and some goo gone take care of it?

Cool

Fishing line or dental floss doubled up. Heat up he base with a hair dryer carefully as not to bruise and/or burn the paint. When warm, not hot, pull the line/floss under the base top tip and in a gentle sawing motion work your way down the base. Remember the base has a couple of tubes protruding form the base so work your way around them.

Capiche...

Thanks for the tips on the dental floss and hair dryer. I'll try it this w/e.

Just remember, after you take the adhesive off, it will probably still be sticky and/or have some leftover adhesive on the hood. When I removed a badge from my Porsche, I used some Goo Gone, then some Scratch X to get it off. The car is black and I couldnt even tell the badge was there after I followed these steps. Good luck man

Unscrew the plastic bolt. Get a hair dryer and some dental floss. Heat the base until it is hot to the touch, pull out the dental floss and slide it under the base to cut the adhesive. Then rock it gently back and forth...continue to heat with hair dryer to keep the adhesive gooey and flexible. It took me about five minutes to take off using that trick.

Then I put an XKR badge on instead so I wouldn't have to keep getting pissed off at whatever douche bag decided to steal the leaper again. I'm happier with the badge.
