Default My S-Type is Tired!

I would like to fix a few minor items that are showing age. I have a 2000 S-Type bought new with only 50K miles. The headlight covers are cloudy and would like to replace them. Can't seem to find them on the internet. I want new floor mats with the Jaguar logo, and the burlwood dash trim pieces are cracked and would like to replace those as well. Can anyone point me in the right direction for these items?

Thanks.

I remember reading about the polishing the headlight in this forum. Search for headlight and you should be able to find the instructions. I would give it a try before spending the money on the headlights.

Many ways to polish the headlights. Take some toothpaste and a buffer and have at it. They will look like new in a hurry.

+1 on that from Enthusiast.. Also, try searching on Car-part.com for the dash trim. It is a national used parts directory. If you can't find the exact part try to find a similar part from the correct year and call the yard and see if they have it. It has been a great resource for me in the past.

I'll try the toothpaste thing. Would CREST or COLGATE work better?

Thanks for the dash trim tip.

Funny....Honestly get the "plain white". It works the best...Not gross anyone out but it works well because it has real fine polishing grit mixed in it. Just enough to polish off old road film but not harsh enough to scratch poly....Also works good on winshield glass.....

You could try Madera Concepts in Goleta, CA. They do some high quality wood work. Might be a little pricey but worth checking out

Another household product that does a great job removing headlight oxidation is a bathroom cleaner called SoftScrub. It's made to clean sinks, tubs, showers, and tile, and it has that same mild grittiness as toothpaste but also contains bleach and other cleansers. Haven't had to use it on our S-Type, but my wife's previous 2000 Lexus RX300 had some of the worst headlights I've ever seen when it comes to attracting exterior oxidation. I had to polish them two or three times a year to keep them clear. SoftScrub really did the trick on them and I think the bleach contained in its formula helped to keep the lenses clearer for longer periods of time. I didn't need to use an electric buffer. Some hard and fast scrubbing with an old cotton washcloth soaked in water then squeezed out to damp got the lenses crystal clear that first time, and the key was to remember to repeat the process at least a couple of times a year, especially during the warmer seasons....

Harbor Freight often advertises a headlight polishing kit. Comes with special buffer pad and polishing paste. The kit is often on sale for around $10.00.

Oh I warmly approve of polishing those misty lenses! The pro. stuff would be jeweller's rouge (a pink powder) but I don't know if you can get it these days.

Thanks guys. I have some Soft Scrub. I'll try it out when the wife comes home from work with the car.

Any ideas on the floor mats? Should I try a Jaguar Dealer?

As for the mats pull them out, hose them down and scrub them on the driveway with a hand brush in all directions, rinse them with the hose and hang them to dry. When dry use a good vacuum and it will look like you gave it a dose of Viagra!!

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try the SoftScrub with my buffer. If that doesn't work I'll get the Harbor Freight tool.

Has anyone tried to replace or repair the wood dash trim? I talked to Madera Concepts and they thought there were screws holding it on around the instrument cluster. Just wondering if anyone took them off and how hard is it to get off without breaking the trim. The clearcoat on mine has cracked in several places and these guys can repair it as good or better than new.

Here are a few diagrams from the JTIS. Also some pictures of the passenger side air bag. I also have a crack the passenger side dash wood. Planning on getting it refinished too.

Nazz300,

Do you have a copy of JTIS? There is a section on removing instrument cluster 88.20.01 that has steps on removing the veneer. If not, go to the sticky on downloading it. It has the steps and illustrations.

Good luck,

Mike

Thanks Mike. I will have to download it. Looks hard to remove without breaking the veneer. Not sure what to pry with and how much pressure to use. It looks extremely tricky.

I tried the SoftScrub and my buffer on one of the headlights. My buffer is too large for the area and I could only get the center of the lens. It is very heavily oxidized so I ordered the Harbor Freight Kit. Hopefully it'll do a better job.

While your at it Harbor Freight also sells a nylon prybar set...That will be VERY helpful when you take the dash apart. I use them all the time so not to damage any fragile interior parts....

part number 95214-0VGA normally $6.99 now on sale for $3.99...

Great addition to anyone's tool box!

(They also sell a bigger set that is blue in the store plus Summit Racing sells a pricier brand as well)

Default My S-Type is Tired!

About a week ago my fiance got really sick. She was constantly going to the bathroom one day, but the following two days she had trouble going. Then right after this (the next day) she got a runny nose like symptom. Now she's tired and says she wake up in a bad mood. I told her to go to a doctor and she is planning on it, but I was just wondering what could cause this? Of course the first thing I thought was morning sickness, but some of the symptoms don't match up. She is also on birth control. Any suggestions would help. Ill award best answer. Thanks.
