My Turn For a Bad Battery
My turn for a bad battery that could have been a nightmare which made last week quite interesting.
Tuesday very early morning, we had to leave home around 5 AM to get to the VA facility (about 35 miles one way) for my left eye cataract operation at 7:45 am. Took my wife's car (2008 Nissan)
Wednesday morning, went back for the bandage removal and check up. Again, took wife's car...mainly because she was driving.
Thursday morning, I went to start my car and all hell happened..dash lights flashing, various faults displayed in the dash, including the ominous red battery symbol, and strange whirring noises and car wouldn't start. I knew right away it was the battery that went south. The worst thing is that the car is nose in into the garage and the shift lever was stuck in "park". CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Called AAA and when they got there, I did get the car started briefly and immediately got the shifter in neutral WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!. Then got it on the tow truck and went with the driver to the dealer. I had called them and they knew I was coming in.
Battery was only 3 years old, so it was slightly prorated. In a general inspection, they "found" more problems, thankfully all covered under the extended warranty.
Got the car back yesterday and the final bill was $1812.65, but I paid only $439.50, for the battery and including the $250 deductible.
Sure glad we took my wife's car for those trips to the VA, it spooked both of us when we found out about the battery.
The dealer (Rusnak Jaguar, Pasadena, CA.) has several other makes nearby and has an Enterprise car rental on site. They had only a PT Cruiser available and the clerk must have seen the "look" on my face, then she offered me a new XF..ding..ding..ding... but $20 add'l per day..nooooooo problem.
The other damage:
Replaced two IMT seals...parts and labor.........$446.00 (warranty covered)
Replaced trans extension housing seal p & l..$483.80 (warranty covered)
Replace trans connector sleeve...p & l...$788.90 (warranty covered)
Rental car (warranty covered) with the exception.
This morning, I had to go back to the VA for the one week checkup. I was hesitant/unsure at first, but as the miles went on, confidence came back.

Thanks guys, the surgery went well and I can see much better, but not too my liking...yet. I go back Feb. 23rd to be fitted for glasses, yes, I still need them..asstigmatism sucks.
I just may take the invoice to a local Jag indy shop and show him the numbers and get his comments. I would have taken the car to him but the warranty people (Easy Care) want someone who is ASE certified and he isn't. He claims that it's just a piece of paper and he's not that interested in getting it.
He works only on Jags so I know he can do the job.

I vouch for that!
The (dealer) numbers look to be about the norm from what I have seen posted here over the past 2 years.

I have a hiking buddy who had cataract surgery on one eye last October and the other eye last November. His vision was much improved after both surgeries, but it required several weeks post-surgery to continue to improve. So hang in there - as your eyes continue to heal, you may begin to see better and better....
He would have preferred to get both eyes done at the same time, but the eye surgeon said no. I suppose they want to ensure that you retain at least one untouched eye in case complications occur....

Thanks, will do. Oh and I'm glad it was only a cataract and not a rincoln, otherwise they'd still be flushing rust from my eyes..
