Heloo there.. been lurking for about a year, about to buy my 2005 S Type 3.0 tomorrow...

my question is this.. ( i couldnt find anything very relevant by using the thread title search or google search, i got to page 4 here and called it quits)

My car will have this exact pictured head unit configuration..not too fancy..




I would love to purchase THIS head unit replacement...:





And ONLY wish to do so to have the nice glow of the screen in my car.. i do NOT care about navigation functionality.. plus Id certainly hope this would ential me to use an adapater to conjoin my ipod as well.. i understand it will not controll it..

So i didnt want to purchase the gps antennnae or the trunk mounted DVD ROM drive at this time.. if i simply replace the in dash guts, will it operate soudly without the other peripheral items installed along w it?

I simply want screen controls and the nice jaguar opening cermony etc w the start of the car etc versus the terrible LCD backlit green box it currently has and possibly the ability to run an ipod into the deck using an aftermarket adapter.... if the answer is NO, then Ill just go all Alpine, but i already have a crazy fast fun car w bells n whistles.. this car Id like to have a crisp OEM look and feel.. so Id rather stay away from Alpine if possible for it and stay OEM.

It's all or nothing with the touchscreen, you need to have the DVD drive as well since the screen is just a screen with buttons, the brains are in the drive. The screen will not work without the drive.

It's not a complicated job, probably been done a hundred times already, the tricky part is the wiring, you need a custom wiring harness, or at the very least the harness from a donor car (with a little modification needed).

Regarding the iPod, no you still need an additional module, there is no AUX input as standard...
