Default need emergency transmission help

I have a 2001 Jaguar S type and I have some transmission issues

Timeline
1. Transmission goes out
2. Shop tries to upcharge me on transmission from their vendor
3. I find another more affordable transmission
4. shop gets mad and tells me they are not liable if the wrong part is sent.
5. shop and vendor connect and shop sends vendor pictures to assure that the right transmission is built and sent
6. shop gets new transmission and puts it into car
7. AFTER the transmission is in the car the shop realizes that the shifter shaft is incorrect and that he can't use the old one because the shifter linkage connector points towards the transmission on the old unit and away on the replacement. he said can shorten enough to connect but then doesn't have all gears
8. Shop asks vendor for compensation for his **** up
9. Vendor says he will not pay for labor of shop making the mistake of putting the tranny in when the part was wrong but would gladly send the right part.
10. shop wants to charge me $325 for replacing the part because its not up to him to keep up with all of the redesigns and changes of a transmission.

My question is...is there a way to find out if there are redesigns or different versions of the on the 5R55N transmission?

I don't get it???

You took a 2001 Jaguar to a transmission shop. What were they suppose to install?

Of course there are different models of the transmission it was used in millions of Ford's over many years. It is a dead common unit and if the shop can't figure that out they should not be in business!

They are a transmission shop and yes they are responsible to install the correct model of transmission.

How can it be any other way??

Sounds like you outsmarted yourself at step 3. Pay the $325.

If $325 will get you out of this mess (that you created by not letting him deal with his own vendor who does regular business with him and thus would be willing to take one for him), pay it and be done with it.

I can't blame the shop for this one. You've already made the job difficult and unpleasant for him by sourcing the transmission from elsewhere and probably wasting his time in the process with all the fuddling around. The rest of the work he has to do won't be a happy time for him. Don't make it more difficult, and don't become the customer from hell.

Penny wise and pound foolish. You blew this at step 3, as evidenced by step 4, "shop gets mad"...

Pay the $325 and move on. It will be money well spent if you learn from the experience.

I agree with Tony K. I'm surprised that the transmission shop even entertained your request and didn't tell you to tow the car out of their facility.

You can't expect to go to a transmission shop and then dictate how they do business.

Don't like their rules? Fix it yourself.
