Default Need some help with brake booster on 3.0 Please!

Hey guys, I replaced my brake booster last year which was purchased from rockauto.com as a reman. My brakes still get the hissing sound when I press on them, so I decided to open the hood, and from doing that I began to move the booster hose around and heard a hissing noise. I decided to pull the hose off of the booster to check it out, and found out that the rubber grommet was dry rotted and was half way ripped. Pretty much what was causing the hissing noise, or at least thats what I think. I can not find the bushing anywhere, I called the dealer, they do not supply it. Anyone know if these are available anywhere or have a part number for them? Really need to get this issue resolved. thanks.

Martin - I would inquire with Rockauto and see if that part you purchased (brake booster) is still under warranty. If so, file a claim and have them send you a replacement booster assembly.

When installing the hose into the booster - lubricate the shaft w/ motor oil or Vaseline - to aid in assembly.

hey, was at the junkyard today to check how the boosters, there is a bushing that goes in there, I was able to pull it out and install it in my booster, and now it fits in there nice and tight. I noticed if you do pull on the hose a bit it makes a hiss noise, not sure if thats normal, but it was better than it was before.... I think have the hiss when pressing on the brakes but the stopping power is much better than it was when the hose was not fully inserted in the booster.

Since the booster is powered by engine vacuum you do get a hiss everytime you step on the brake pedal. This is why you need a continous source of vacuum. You use vacuum with every brake application.
