Default New JAG owner here!!! 2000 S-Type: Opinions Please!

So I just bought this Jag and I'm pretty stoked about it!!!

2000 Jaguar S-Type

Paid $1,800 for it.

Here's the skinny:

Sat for 1 1/2 years. Needs the following: oil pan, front & rear bumper needs sanded and repainted, driver's side fender has damage and will need replaced and painted, needs a dent pulled out of driver's door.

I am suspecting to have to change the plugs and wires, flush the engine and radiator, as well as possibly replace the tires even though they have good tread on them.

Here are some pics:

Let me know what you think!!!!

Welcome to the forum, it looks OK to me. My biggest concern would be the condition of the engine, you mention 'needs oil pan' was that damaged during a high speed chase?

the story i got was he hit a deer and in the process ran over a curb that busted the oil pan. I finally had some time last night to look it over and everything seems to be sound on it with the engine as well as all the window/sunroof motors, etc. It even wants to trun over and fire up dispite being dry of oil and gas. looks like 3 of the plugs will be a pain to get to, but other than that you can really see the Ford design built into this first model that Ford and Jaguar made togther after Ford bought them out.

The more I research this car and the more I dig through the car itself, the more assured I am that this was a steal.

Thanks for all the input and keep the questions rolling in!!!

Exclamation bit of bad news...

Well, it seems I have bitten off more than I thought I would have to chew here.

To answer Translator's question, I will let the pictures show you before I rattle on:

as you can also see on the attachment jpg of the Rack & Pinion it is cracked as well. Now this part I keep calling "subframe" is what the R&P is bolted into. It also has 2 motor mounts on it. Can anyone tell me if i will have to lift the engine or support it to change this part?

I only ask because I still can't get the JTIS manual to work right.
See thread-->https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ghlight=jagman

THanks for listening and participating!!!

You should be able to lift the engine with a jack and put something like this

which you can custom make yourself. It will hold the engine from the top while you drop the subframe and replace it and replace your R&P.
Heres a home built one.

Some mighty big deer you have over there!

Good post from Vance.

Hope you can get it sorted, it still looks like a good buy.

Vance, you are on time sir!!!

I came to the same conclusion about the support beam. Found one at a local retailer on sale for only $50!!! I'm going to pick one up this weekend as well as a new battery to drop in there so I can re-pull any codes with my OBDII scanner.

DOES ANYONE WITH ACCESS TO THE JTIS KNOW WHERE THE CORRECT ANCHOR POINTS ON THE ENGINE WILL BE?

The damage on the underneath side is a bit more than what I thought I was gettting into, but its all sorted out now and I'm looking forward to the additional work in the project. Only bummer is it will delay the Launch Day.

Default Oil Pan, Cross Member, & Rack & Pinion disassembled!

So I got the oil pan, cross member and r n' p taken off this weekend. Wasn't as bad as what I thought it would be. Most of the bolts and nuts are metric size and not a lot of switching back n forth.

Here's a shot of the 3 damaged pieces:

And here's a shot of the underbelly of the engine block:

You can see I left the air compressor {top-left side of pic} & Altenator {right side of pic behind the exhaust} attached and was still able to drop the oil pan!!!! There were only 2 bolts on the bottom of each unit that I had to undo and then just loosened the top ones [1 for the altenator and 2 for the compressor]

And my engine support is working just fine so far!!

Now the best part is I now have access to alldata pro!!!!!

Can't wait to get home and figure it out!!!!
So now I am just sitting back and waiting on my parts to arrive!

Anyone got a suggestion on the best place to get a Remote Key Fob for this bad boy???

Thanks again for all the input and for letting me participate.

UPDATE:

So, I finally got the oil pan in. Ended up finding one for a 2000 Lincoln LS that fits perfect! [see pic below]

You can see the old Jaguar pan on the left and the Lincoln LS oil pan on the right.

Cross member is on its way and should be on by the weekend. Will get pics and update on it and some more of the newly installed oil pan.

I did get it to crank, but no start. I posted my questions under the General Help section here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=41874

Thanks for reading!!

PS: For all you techys out there these pics were taken with my new HTC EVO 4G. The 8 megapixel camera in it is freaking awesome!!!!!

Looks like a great project you're working on! Can't wait to see ow you make out with it. I'm wondering if the powers that be could move this thread over the S-Type forum - it might be useful to someone else there, instead of hidden over here in the new member section. Lots of great stuff you're working on and pics!

Cheers!
Rob

Yes, as this has become more detailed than just a simple introduction I'll move it over to the S Type section.

Please keep updating on your rebuild.
