Hey everyone. I am strongly considering the purchase of a 2003 jaguar S Type R. I've never owned a jag nor do i know anyone who can vouch for them> i know they don't have the greatest reputation for reliability can anyone give me feedback, especially s type owners. For example is the supercharger strong and when should it be examined. Is servicing reasonably priced? what are common problems with these cars? please help.

Welcome canadian ml to the forum.................STR..............nice choice.
Good luck with your purchase......there are many knowledgable members here who should be able to help. Maybe try asking the question in the S type forum?
All the best
Jim
I have never owned an STR but I am a two time Jaguar S-Type owner. My first "S" was a 2003 V6 and she ran great with no major issues up until she was totalled out by a semi-truck. [:@]I now own a 2004 "S" with a V8and I love it! No major issues with her just basic up keep. I think Marcus is right though. It really does make a difference in regards to who owned it and how they maintained it. I purchased a car fax before hand and the dealership I bought from is also very selective about what cars they take in. Both of my cars had very low miles on them and were in excellent condition. If you decide to buy from a dealer- I would only buy from a Jaguar dealer. Look for the Select Edition- these are certified pre-owned cars and usually have some kind of warranty included. As far as an STR.... They are HOT! I would love to have an STR! Do your homework and GO FOR IT!! You won't regret it. Jaguars are awesome cars no matter what the model. Good Luck!!

hey welcome canadian! I own an 03' STR and have had about all the problems that are "common" for the 03's. First and foremost....Make sure you are purchasing the vehicle with the select edition warranty. this saved my ***!! its the equivalent of "certified" for other companys and will cary the warranty up to 100k or x-number of years, ask the dealer about it. my first problem was the headlights. there is much debate weather select edition covers them, at my local dealer they were covered. other members have not had the same luck. next was my tourque converter. then coil packs, and finally my back up sensors. THANK GOD FOR THE WARRANTY!!!!. i love my STR but watch out it might bite you if your not careful.
i totally agree about having the select edition! also try and get one thats still under original factory...unfortunately i did not find out about headlight problem until the original part of the warranty was up, i had to pay for the modules but they covered both headlights. My first two visits when i got the car covered a ton of big money items prob around $10k worth. Most of this stuff I didnt even realize was broken or felt any fault with and im very detail oriented. After that the car has been fault free and i love it! ill prob be selling mine sometime in the spring though to move up to an XJ so if you havent bought by then keep me in mind
