Questions from a STR owner...
Hopefully this will help out alot of people. Please try to include information for all models (3.0/4.2/R)
If admins want to clean this up or have suggestions for me please let me know. Forums are a wealth of information.
1.) What is the correct way for replacing the brake pads. Any special tools for the parking brakes? What pads do you use. What about rotors?
2.) A good list of OEM and Aftermarket manufacturers? Is there anyway to raise the revlimiter? Any cpu flashing tools? (techs please respond on this) Will stand alone's work? How well built is the engine? How much boost can it handle? Is there headers? Affordable cats? (6k for cats is retarded.)
3.) Proper oil change procedures? How many qts of oil is needed for all models? Suggested filter? Whats the suggested oil change interval? Does the car tell you when to change the oil? Do you have to reset the computer? If so how do you do that?
4.)What other tires do you use/recommend?
5.)At what intervals should I take my jag in for checkups? Its still under warranty and I want to keep it in top shape.
5.) Common problems to look out for.
6.) Diagrams/Procedures for general repair and maintenance.
7.) Spark plug recommendation and replacement procedures. Replace at what intervals?
8.) Aftermarket Intercoolers? I've heard of them, where to purchase?
9.) Can we get a posi rear? Will it interfere with the TCS?
10.) How do you adjust the lights? My motors still work but one is a little lower than the other.
11.) Post any other questions you have here. <

thats a lot to ask for.. the parking brake caliper need s to be pushed in before installing new brakes.. there is a special tool for this.. not sure if there is a aftermarket tool.
supercharged cars need spark plug replacement every 96 k.
oil change every 5 k ..it takes 6.5 litrs of oil .
qdjust headlights.. open hood.. remove cover four plastic screws.. remove.. then at headlamps there are 2 outer white plastic adjusters the outside ones do up and down.. but they can brake when adjusted..

Based on my years with my STR:
1) You can do the brakes yourself if you have done break jobs before and save a ton, the brembo calipars are actually pretty user friendly. Getting the right pads for an R is a little tricky, a lot of places have sent me the non-R pads promising me they areright, look for the two holes on top of the pad for the calipar pins, no holes, wrong pad. Jaguar does have a special tool for pushing the pistons but its not absolutely required. Trying out EBC Red Stuff ceramics next week actually, will let you know...
2) Not a whole lot out there, some go to Jaguar XP, some to Eurotek, Arden, etc... in the end not a whole lot, you will have to get creative. Those Exhaust kits area total rip off but the car sounds great with exhaust, pulls the mufflers off yourselfone day (just two bolts)when your bored and you will realize how great of sound can come out of this car with a good exhaust. I had a custom one welded by a friend, saved a ton. Left the H-pipe and cats as is though, didnt want to be too loud. Havent seen headers.
4) I have BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDWs, love them, great tread pattern that really gives the car an aggressive look, gripgreatwhen drybut tires spin easily in the rain, and if there is even a little ice or snow dont plan on driving.
7) Beware the dealers on the spark plugs, huge overcharge, they are uridiums that normally dont cost more than $8 a piece, dealer will quote you hundreds to replace them and have told me that a "spark plug gasket" has to be replaced each time and this is why they upcharge so much....yet to do it....yet to confirm this gasket replacement, any help on this techs?
10) The headlights suck, period. You will have to get use to this. I have had them adjusted numerous times and even replaced and it still doesnt matter. Probably the number one issue on these cars.
11) The guys at Eurotek say they have put well over 500hp on that transmission and they have never broken one, they says its a beast, and you dont change the fluid, its all internal and not necessary, technically there is no real service you perform on this transmission. You can have jaguar check/update the computer software on it and thats about it, this helps if you start to notice issues.
All in all, I think its a great car, not a lot of them out there, and wouldnt give mine up.

The brake pads are a snap and the caliper pistons can be pushed back by hand. These are the pads that I replaced my factory pads with. They are quiet and virtually dust free!!
