hello all. For emotional reasons more than anything else I am intrigued by the 2002 S type. Consumer Reports says the 00, 01 and 03 are "avoids", but that there was not enough info on the 02.

I have found some potentials at good prices, which I would of course have inspected before agreeing to purchase. I would also plan to get an extended warranty I think.

Any opinions would be welcome. Should I forget it, and spend another couple grand on a 5 series BMW? Or do the psychic benefits of Jaguar ownership outweigh any potential problems?

Should I have a complete servicing done on the car when I get it (fluids, filters etc). Any things to look out for in particular?

I would spend the extra couple grand and get an 03 or 04. There was nothing really wrong with the 03 other than shift quality which is highly correctable if you get the right person working on it.

 

yeah i wouldnt buy less then an 03 ( sig upgraded mechanically and interior ) i always read consumer reports and have had many cars on their strongly avoid list tha turned out to be great. Mostly consumer reports tests how many boxes of tampons fit in the trunk and that sort of thing...really not very much into the overall car
