Drove my wife's S-Type the 100 miles or so to my mom's house early yesterday morning to finish up the painting project in her kitchen. During the drive home in mid-afternoon yesterday, a very clean X-Type fell in behind me on I-40. We were doing about 85 mph for at least 50 miles until I split off to I-85 and he continued on I-40. It was a beautiful spring afternoon, moderate traffic, and the two of us pretty much dominated the extreme left lane of the interstate, easily passing slower traffic and turning a few heads as we made our way around the slower traffic. Only saw two highway patrol cruisers during the entire return trip, both of them had stopped tractor trailers so we sped past with no issues. All in all, a gorgeous day for a spirited drive. It's been a while since I've done that in her S-Type. It still brings a smile to my face when I'm behind the wheel in situations like that....

 

I always liked the I-40 section from Raleigh to Wilmington. Hardly anyone on that stretch always just a nice cruise. When my wife was living in Clayton and I was still stationed in Jacksonville I used to drive that stretch every weekend. Since I havent taken the highway regularly for the last 2 years I kinda miss being able to just cruise along with no traffic lights like that.

 

Jon brings a smile to my face thinking back a few years (ok alot years) but I could really go for that feeling again! Pure heaven........

 

Maybe in June if we get this meet planned we can get a nice convoy of S types heading up from the Carolinas to Pitts. Be a sweet drive for sure. Good stops off 77 for some photos.
